Night public transport in Riga to run also in 2012

"Rīgas satiksme" informs that night transport will continue running in Riga also in 2012, the service will be available in the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday. Starting from January 7, 2012, Rīgas satiksme will operate 9 bus routes, which are designed so as to cover a majority of Riga’s most populated districts.

Given low demand, night bus route No. 9  Centre – Čiekurkalns – Mežaparks will be closed. Its sections with the highest number of passengers (e.g. K.Valdemāra Street) will be provided with alternative of reaching the necessary destination. Five of the existing night transport routes (No. 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6) will be changed.

As before, the terminal of the night buses in the city centre will be at trolleybus stop  Railway Terminal Square/Central Railway Terminal. The night transport routes will be served by yellow midibuses. "Rīgas satiksme" also informs that starting from January 6, 2012, return routes of night buses No. 4, 5 and 6 to the city centre will be changed, therefore a passenger will be entitled to go to the city centre with just one single ticket, no matter in which point of the route he/she takes the bus.

All buses will leave the city centre simultaneously, in round hours. Departure times are selected so that passengers could better understand and remember night bus schedules. Buses of all routes will leave the terminal at Railway Terminal Square/ Central Railway Terminal simultaneously – at 24:00; 01:00; 02:00; 03:00; 04:00; 05:00, but from terminals at the other ends of night routes – at  00:30; 01:30; 02:30; 03:30; 04:30, and in some routes at 05.30 (Ķengarags – Centre, Mežaparks - Centre, Ziepniekkalns – Vienības gatve – Centre; on other routes the day traffic already starts at 05.30). In winter season, departure times of routes No.2 Centre – Sarkandaugava – Vecmīlgrāvis and No.3 – Centre – Bolderāja from Vecmīlgrāvis and Bolderāja are changed due to difficult traffic conditions.

Departure times between terminals are approximate and depend on passenger flow. Schedules will be available at www.rigassatiksme.lv and at terminals of the night routes.
